Organic

I decided to eat all organic for a month.  My friend Natalie has been all organic for one year and has lost 30 lbs and in her mid 40's says she feels the best that she ever has in her life.. i so want that...I also reading some stuff by Raymond Francis, who is an MIT trained scientist and believes that all of our disease is due to either toxicity or deficiency. He himself claims...

joining the difference

i joined "The Difference" community, and I've met some wonderful people. I'm going to be doing some cranial sacral work with quinn, or i should say, trading some massage for some cranial sacral work.  i'm really looking forward to seeing what may come... will post our findings. Quinn is doing great, and has been without accidents at school for about 3 weeks.  What a wonderful feeling. But honestly, i cant tell you why... it's just...

Rant

Most of us here in the US would call ourselves Christians. Most of us have heard the quote that "God helps those who help themselves, " right?   You may assume it's in the bible, but you'd be wrong... that was uttered by Ben Franklin.   Which was the opposite of what Jesus taught.  JC said his most important teaching was to love your neighbor as yourself.  And he was very clear what he meant by his...

Quinn is awesome

My boy Quinn is perfect.  I must have gotten 30 hugs before he went to school today.  He didn't have any accidents, and he was happy, dancing to his teach to talk videos... I just love that kiddo.  I started him on a new vitamin program today.  I have a 30 day supply and we'll see how it goes..  He is really spacy some days. Today however, this morning he was just a perfect love....

Autism Today

Quinn's autism today was his quirky behavior.  Waking up and putting his ear on my big toe and saying, "feet, feet, hello feet!"  I tell him "Ok Quinn, enough feet" but he stays for several minutes and fills his ears with my toes. He is a bit compulsive about this lately.  Whenever I take my shoes off, he points his ear to my feet, may even get on the ground and lay his head on...

Device Scare

Goodness... when you have a communication device that's worth 8000, you get a little freaked out when the backpack goes missing. well that's just what happened to us. The babysitter borrowed her dad's truck and forgot she put it there.  We called transportation, the school, the teacher, we looked and looked and looked and couldn't find it... crazymaking. Then the sitter finally found it in her dad's truck she borrowed one day.  OMG what a...

Rocky Point Mexico 10/09

We went to the beach in Rocky Point and had another great trip. Tried to get a few pics of the shirts and got some other great pics too.  Quinn was happy as a clam at the beach all day every day.  I got really brown as I always do and Tate had lots of friends to play with because Tim's brother came down with his girlfriend and her two kids who are Tate's age,...

beach boy

"mom, mom, mom.....beach?"    "yes quinn, we're going to the beach in a few days... we're going bud, we're going"   a few minutes later quinn comes out with his swim suit on just as the school bus pulls up in front of the house... so i scramble to get his regular shorts on. he's confused and a little disappointed, but i reassure him that yes quinn, we're going to the beach, but right now it's time...

Behavior or Sensory Problem?

Very important for parents to be sensitive to their kid's sensory issues.  Many "melt-downs" can be as a result of sensory issues- fourescent lighting, a busy store, food sensitivities, etc.  In regards to hidden medical problems, you need to rule out the following: -Acid Reflux - this is very common, and not obvious -Constipation -Urinary Tract Infecions -Yeast Infection (overgrowth in gut, not so obvious) -Ear Infections -Bad Tooth -H Pilori virus (makes stomach problems/ulcers)...

Temple

Temple Grandin waqs at the Mesa Conference Friday.  She is a wonderful speaker, aspergers, a PHD, an author, and her designs for cattle feed lots in the US make 50% of the beef you eat is processed in plants with her desings.  She's a remarkable woman, and is 60 years old.  When Temple was little, she displayed all the classic symptoms of autism... spinning objects, delayed speech, staring off into space, rocking, etc.  But her...

Mesa Autism Conference

I can't say a ton about it just now because this weekend I'm going to an expo, but I do want to say that I will have A TON of really good info on the forum and blog aout sensory overload,  fluorescent lighting(many autistics see the flickering of the fluorescent lights we can't see and it gives them headaches, melt-downs, etc. and remember how many places that they are at... grocery stores, malls, schools, many...

09/09/09

So, we are here at this event of numbers that won't come around again for a thousand years. 09/09/09.  For numerologists, the combination of nines could be both positive and negative. On the plus side, nine is associated with success, compassion and forgiveness. On the negative side, it can signal arrogance, sanctimony and self-righteousness. Since I'v come to the conclusion in my life that perception is reality, I'm going with success, compassion and forgiveness.  And...

journey through

Every once in a while I need a pep talk.  Ok, lately, i need one at least daily.  Starting a new business is HARD on my fragile psyche.  I am the classic example of feeling the fear and doing it anyway.  I believe I'm in a transformational phase of my life.  Growing out of low self esteem and low confidence.  My thoughts can turn quickly to my old standby, I'm not good enough, I don't...

bird, bird

Quinn gets home off the bus today, and after my big hug, he tells me he wants to see the bird. Quinn's autism manifests itself with limited speech.  "Bird, bird, bird" he says.  So in we go, and Quinn goes up to the birds and puts out his finger.  I get Alex out of his cage for him and put Alex on his findger.  Quinn goes and sits down and starts talking, "bird... nice bird......

Poo at 24hr Fitness

Oh Autism. Last night I heard my name on the intercom at 24 hour fitness.... Stacey Kirkland to the kids club...Stacey Kirkland to the kids club.  So I rushed over.  Quinn was all the way in the back standing in the corner with a big wet spot on his bottom.  I smelled poo. Bad poo.  When I got closer, I could see green slime, down his legs and all over the place.  He was wearing...

Two birds

Tate's bribe for quitting sucking her thumb was to get a parakeet.  I didn't see her suck her thumb for a whole month, with help of the "thumb guard" - a piece of rubber that fits over the thumb with a hole at the top so you can't get a suction with a wrist band that goes on like when you're at an amusement park that you have to cut to get off-  anyhow, this...

Hand Flappin' Happy!

Quinn is such a hand flapper. The kid gets so excited!  It was the first shirt I made- "Hand Flappin' Happy-man!"  and then I thought about the girls, so there was, "Hand Flappin' Happy!" and then i needed a shirt, so I created " Gotta love my Hand Flappin' Happy-man!" and then "Gotta love the hand flappin happy people!"  So, now we have a whole line of hand flappin' happy shirts.  It's neat.  It brings an air of understanding, tolerance and acceptance. ...

Foot Love

Quinn's got this thing about feet. Autism can really be strange sometimes.  Every morning Quinn will wake up and undrape my feet, say "hi feet!" and but his ear on top of my big toe all the while saying, "nice feet, nice feet, nice feet, awwwwe. soft.."  The kid really gets a kick out of it.  If I'm up and about and he didn't get to do his "foot ritual" he will ask me to...

The fish disappeared

Man.  I love this kid. He went to the pet store with me an tate last night and he LOVED the fish.  Living with autism can be pretty funny. He's tap the glass and watch all the fish scatter, and then hand flap like he was going to fly away.  I don't think the fish liked it very much, but it sure made Quinn happy.  He'd laugh and laugh and then do it again.  We...
