Tate's bribe for quitting sucking her thumb was to get a parakeet. I didn't see her suck her thumb for a whole month, with help of the "thumb guard" - a piece of rubber that fits over the thumb with a hole at the top so you can't get a suction with a wrist band that goes on like when you're at an amusement park that you have to cut to get off- anyhow, this is her 3rd one, she bit through abd destroyed the other 2, and this one she had to pay for (60 bucks!) and now we have 2 parakeets as well. 12 days ago we got our first one. He seemed lonely. Friendly, but lonely. He didn't say a peep for 10 days. He's Alex. So we went and got Patrick to keep Alex company ysterday. They are very young birds. The first one is 3 months old, and the second one we got is only 2 months old. One light blue, one teal. Beautiful little guys. So, we thought getting the second bird yesterday would make them happy, chirp, etc. But exept for a chirp or 2 at the most, silence.... they are sweet birds, don't get me wrong. They don't nip or bite. They look at you and wink at you and they don't try to fly away- they are really cute. But they still don't make any noise. Tate was hoping to get one that may try and mimic. Maybe they're young yet. But it's neat. Quinn likes to put a bird on his finger and talk to it, "Hi bird, Hi bird, nice bird, awe..." as he puts his ear up against it, nice and gentle. I think it's good for him. More good autism animal therapy. And maybe it's a good thing that they don't make too much noise. I just want them to be happy. Tate seems happy with her birds too. She puts them both on her shoulders and then takes them out on her skateboard. She also goes and takes them to her friend's house and lets their 2 birds play with her 2. Cleans the cage, feeds them. For the first 12 days, things are going well, i think....
